Freight Infrastructure Planning
California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) staff have developed a “Draft Staff Proposal: Zero-Emissions Freight Infrastructure Planning” that addresses the need for proactive planning of long lead time utility-side electrical infrastructure (i.e., distribution and transmission) needed to support the acceleration of transportation electrification. The Freight Infrastructure Planning (FIP) staff proposal specifically focuses on the development of a common set of TE inputs and assumptions and the facilitation of process alignment to inform long-term planning for medium- and-heavy duty grid infrastructure along freight corridors. While this is not the only area or use case that will require adjustments to long-term grid planning, this is a key area of expected load growth and one which requires focused attention.
